Overview
This policy explains how HeadDown handles your information, covering both the macOS app and this website. The short version: the app keeps everything on your Mac, and the website collects as little as possible.
The app
HeadDown runs entirely on your Mac. To do its job it reads the address of your browser’s active tab and compares it against the blocklist you choose. That blocklist is stored locally in your Mac’s own preferences.
HeadDown does not create an account, does not include analytics, and does not send your browsing, your blocklist, or any other personal data off your device.
Permissions
macOS asks for permission before HeadDown can read your browser. It uses Automation to read the active tab in Safari and Chromium browsers, and Accessibility to read the address bar in Firefox. These permissions are used only on your device, in real time, to check the current tab. Nothing is recorded or transmitted.
App updates
So it can keep itself current, HeadDownperiodically checks our server for new versions. That request sends only the app’s version number; as with any web request, our host may log standard technical details such as your IP address and the time of the check. These checks never include your browsing, your blocklist, or any other personal data.
The website and payments
This website is a static marketing site. If you buy HeadDown, the sale is handled by Polar, our merchant of record. Polar processes the payment, charges any applicable tax, and collects the information needed to do so — such as your email and billing details — under its own privacy policy. We receive your email address and basic order details to deliver the app and provide support, but we never see or store your full card details.
Analytics and cookies
We do not use advertising trackers on this site. Any cookies set during a purchase are limited to what the payment processor needs to complete checkout.
Your choices and rights
Because the app stores your data locally, you stay in control. Edit or clear your blocklist from the menu bar at any time, or remove the app to delete it entirely. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data held about you. Most of that data sits with Polar, so you can contact them directly, or email us and we will help route your request.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. The “last updated” date above always reflects the current version.
